Monday
Warm up: Monday 12
Lesson: The class will review and complete spelling packet 10 ( /cher/ sound). There will be a spelling test Friday. Once completed, we will begin creating a map that identifies the setting of The Cay.

Warm up: Tuesday 12
Lesson: Today we will finish reading chapter 5 and 6. We will also continue to work on our maps.

Lesson: The Cay maps are due today. The class will work on our vocabulary words from chapters 1-3.

Lesson: We will start with our spelling tests. Today we will be introduced to Study Island. We will use this computer program throughout the year to track and monitor 6th grade language arts skills. Students have two assignments that need to be completed (pretest, run-on sentences).

Lesson: The class will review and complete spelling packet 9 ( /er/ sound). There will be a spelling test Friday. Once completed, we will read and discuss chapter 4 in The Cay.

Lesson: The class will complete comprehension questions from chapters 1-3 in The Cay. Once completed, we will read chapter 5.
HW: Pg. 12 (Points of View) & Pg. 24 (Fact & Opinion)
Wednesday
Students will report to their homeroom class today since the 8th graders will be taking a practice standardized test.
Thursday
Warm up: Thursday 11
Lesson: We will first correct the homework. The class will work on correcting run-on sentences (pg. 41 Language Practice). If there is extra time we will read chapter 6 in The Cay.

Friday
Since I was out due to a death in the family, the students reviewed parts of speech.

Monday
Warm up: Monday 10
Lesson: The class will be introduced to spelling lesson eight (compound words). We will have a spelling test Friday. After spelling, the class will be introduce to the novel that we will be reading this nine weeks. We will be reading the novel, The Cay by Theodore Taylor. Each student will be provided with a copy of the novel. Please make sure you bring this book to class everyday. Students will be given a copy of the vocabulary words from chapters 1-3. We will go over and discuss each of these vocabulary words in detail.

Lesson: Today we will read and discuss chapters 1-2 in The Cay. Students will be able to identify the setting, point of view, characters, and conflicts in the first two chapters.

Lesson: Students will be able to identify and correct run-on sentences. We will take notes on how to identify and correct run-on sentences. Classwork: pg. 458 Ex. 34 & pg. 460 ex. 35.

Lesson: We will continue to identify and correct run on sentences. We will also begin to read chapter 3 in The Cay.
HW: Study for spelling test, finish reading chapter 3, and complete workbook pages 81 & 82.
Friday
Warm up: None
Lesson: Today, we will start by writing a five paragraph essay. The prompt this week will have to do with the book we are reading this nine weeks, The Cay. Prompt: If you were on a small raft in the middle of the ocean, what three items would you want to have on your raft? The students will spend 8 to 10 minutes creating an outline, 20 minutes writing the essay, and 5 minutes proofreading. After the essay the class will take their spelling test.

Lesson: The first half of the class will be spent finishing our essay from Friday. Once completed, students will be able to identify the difference between a sentence and a fragment.

Lesson: Students will be able to identify and correct a sentence fragment. We will work together on page 457 exercise 33. The class will begin working on grammar workbook pages 77-80

Lesson: Today we will finish up with the book report presentations. Depending on the amount of time left after the book reports, students will be given the next spelling unit (unit 7).

Lesson: Today we will be reading the play “In the Fog” (pg. 75, lit. book). We will discuss and analzing suspense throughout the play.

Lesson: The class will read the play “The Hitchhiker” (Lit. book, pg. 87). The class will find examples of foreshadowing and suspense throughout the play.

Thursday

Lesson: Today we will finish reading “The Hitchhiker”. Students will complete comprehension questions over both the plays.
HW: Study for spelling test
Friday
Warm-up: Journal entry
Lesson: 1) spelling test, 2) The class will compare different elements of suspense in the plays, “In the Fog” and “The Hitchhiker”.
