Lesson Plans: February 25 - 29

Monday

Warm-up: Daily Language Review 26

Lesson: Students will discuss and complete spelling packet 23. Once completed, the class will be introduced to prepositions. Each student will receive a list of 48 commonly used preposition. Students will memorize this list using the song “Yankee Doodle”.

Tuesday

Warm-up: Daily Language Review 26

Lesson: The class will start by practicing the preposition song. The class will also participate in an activity that will demonstrate how prepositions are used in sentences. Students will take a paper ball and throw it toward a desk. Students will use a sentence explaining where their paper ball landed in relation to the desk. Example: My paper landed under the chair. Prepositional phrases will also be introduced.

Wednesday

Warm-up: Daily Language Review 26

Lesson: Students will identify prepositional phrases. Students will complete exercises 4, 6, 7, & 8. Pages 354 -358.

HW: None

Thursday

Warm-up: Daily Language Review 26

Lesson: The class will complete an activity today called The Prepositional Pirate. Each student will draw a treasure map. On the back of the treasure map, each student must provide a written description explaining where to find the treasure. This description must include ten prepositional phrases.

Lesson:  Continue prepositional pirate activity.

Lesson Plans: February 18 – 22

Monday – NO SCHOOL – President’s Day

Tuesday – Discuss and complete spelling packet 22 (Prefixes). Today we will finish working in cooperative groups, students will continue creating a collage using advertisements from magazines demonstrating various propaganda techniques. (6.1.27) Homework – Spelling Packet, three times each

Wednesday – Grammar – Discuss Troublesome Modifiers – Good/Well, Bad/Badly, pages 546 – 548. Complete Exercise 15 page 547, Using Bad and Badly, and Exercise 16 page 548, Using Good and Well. (6.3.4)
Homework – NONE

Thursday – Grammar – Complete Exercise 17 page 548, Revising Sentences with Troublesome Modifiers, and Exercise 20 page 549, Using Troublesome Modifiers.

Friday – SPELLING TEST! Listen to “The Bracelet” Answer comprehension questions relating to the story. Grammar – Complete Exercise 28 page 550 – 551, Using Troublesome Modifiers. (6.3.4)

Lesson Plans: February 11 – 15

***Book Report for the 3rd 9 weeks will be introduced to students.

Monday – Discuss and complete spelling packet 21. Review Adverbs & Adjectives using activity on overhead projector, Exercise 18 and 19 page 340-341 (6.3.4). Complete Figurative Language Projects in class today. Begin discussing comparative forms of adjectives and adverbs, page 538. Discuss the degrees of comparison by adding -er and -est to adjectives.

Homework - Spelling Packet

Tuesday – Introduce, define, and give examples of propaganda techniques – bandwagon, stereotype and name calling, testimonial, and transfer. Discuss commercials that use each specific technique. (6.1.21) (6.1.27).
Grammar – Review comparative forms of adjectives and adverbs, page 538-540. Check Exercise 1 page 538, Forming the Degrees of Comparison of One and Two-Syllable Adjectives. (6.3.4)

Homework – None

Wednesday – Define and give examples of propaganda techniques. Present a Powerpoint presentation on Propaganda with examples. GROUP PROJECT - Working in cooperative groups, students will create a collage of certain types of propaganda. Each group will choose one type of propaganda to display and present to the class on Friday. (6.1.27) (6.3.4)
Grammar - Review comparisons using adjectives. Check Exercise 2 page 539, Comparisons Using Adjectives on transparencies. Complete Exercise 3 page 540, Using Adjectives with More and Most, and Exercise 4 page 540, Revising Sentences with Adjectives. (6.3.4)

Homework – None

Thursday – Continue with Group Project in cooperative groups. Students will present projects to class tomorrow.
Grammar - Grammar - Discuss Irregular Adjectives and Adverbs, page 540 - 541. Complete Exercise 5, Recognizing the Degree of Irregular Modifiers, using whiteboards. (6.3.4)

Homework – None

Friday – Spelling Test! Continue with Group Project in cooperative groups. Present the projects to class. (6.1.21) (6.1.27)
Grammar – Check Exercise 4 page 540 and Exercise 5 page 541. Review comparisons using adjectives. Using the same sentence, complete a tri-fold book to illustrate an adjective modifying a noun in positive form, comparative form, and superlative form. (6.3.4)

Monday – Review the meaning of simile, metaphor, alliteration, personification, onomatopoeia, imagery, and rhyme scheme. Identify these figures of speech in context. (6.1.13) (6.1.18)
Read “Sneetches” by Dr. Seuss, page 627 - 630. Discuss the made-up words and imaginary creatures found in Dr. Seuss stories. (6.1.25)
Grammar – Complete Exercise 34 page 347, Identifying Adverbs, and Exercise 35 page 347, Identifying Adverbs and the Words They Modify. (6.3.4)
Homework – Writing - Final draft of 5-paragraph essay due tomorrow

Tuesday – Writing - Final draft of 5-paragraph essay due today.

Homework – Grammar - Complete workbook page 31, Adjective or Adverb

Wednesday – Shortened class due to the TCAP Writing Assessment. Discuss tone and the elements of an ode. Introduce and give the definitions for the Spanish words in the poem. Read “Ode to Mi Gato”
